Why do we teach Writing?
At Bluecoat we strongly believe all children should be taught the necessary skills to not only be able to write confidently and competently but to develop their own individual authorial voice. Our goal is for pupils to be able to use writing as a tool for not only communication but for pleasure. We teach writing through a series of well-planned and structured writing sequences which expose children to a range of high quality and inspiring texts as well as giving children an in-depth knowledge of and opportunities to, apply the grammatical constructs required. These sequences typically last three weeks by which point an extended piece of writing is produced.
